I met one of my all time favourite players

Hey, guys!

Today I'm going to be talking about the time I met one of my favourite hockey players. For those of you who don't know, I work at Pro Hockey Life, the worlds largest hockey retailer. It's a great job! I love my job there because I get access to all this awesome knowledge about equipment and NHL licensed products and if you're lucky you get to meet some NHL players that come into the store.

June 15, 2013

I had some friends visiting from out of town and they were staying at my house. There were 4 other boys staying at my house beside myself and my two other siblings. It got pretty hectic at home but I enjoyed every second of it. I had gone out last night with them and we had stayed out fairly late and I knew I had to work tomorrow.

The next morning I felt the effects of staying up until 4 am. I got up ran to the shower and quickly got ready for work. I ate a small bowl of cereal before bolting out the door to work. When I arrived I ran inside to avoid being late. I clocked in with five minutes to spare.

I headed over to my specific department and began asking customers if they needed a hand finding anything. I asked a gentleman who had his back turned to me if he needed any help. The man turned around and smiled at me and said "Hi there, I'm alright but I think my son might need a hand."

My eyes immediately went wide and I smiled back and said "Oh my gosh, you're Shane Doan from the Phoenix Coyotes."

He smiled and stuck his hand out and said "How's it going?" I said "Whoa, you're Shane Doan!"

For those of you who don't know Shane Doan is the last original Winnipeg Jets player in the NHL right now.

I had chatted with Shane for about 20 minutes before another customer needed a hand. In that time I got to know Shane and how the move from Winnipeg to Phoenix was a big culture shock for him. He also gladly volunteered to take a picture with me. I took about 5-6 photos with him because so all of them came out blurry. Each time I asked for another picture he said of course with a smile on his face. He was by far the nicest pro hockey player I have ever met. He also signed autographs fro kids and chatted with many other people in the store. All my other co-workers said he was one of the nicest guys as well.

So, I want to hear from you guys. What hockey players have you met and what was their personality like? Comment below!

Until next week, guys!

My all time favourite game

Hey, guys!

This week I'm going to be talking about my all time favourite hockey game. My all time favourite game would have to be the goal medal game between Team Canada and Team USA at the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympics. To this day I watch highlights from that game and I still get goosebumps.

The story goes a little something like this....

February 28, 2010.

It was a cold Sunday morning in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I woke up and ran straight to the living room and and turned the TV on to CBC. I was so excited I could hardly contain it. It was a weird day because it was also my dad's birthday. I was so excited for the game that I forgot to wish my dad a happy birthday.....Don't worry I didn't forget my dad's birthday!

I sat on the couch and saw that the game had already started, I was anxious. I was so on dye that as soon as any of my family members started talking I yelled at them to shut up. I knew today history was going to be made.

After ten minutes of me tuning into the game a laser of goal was scored by my hometown hero, Jonathan Toews! I immediately jumped up from my couch and started cheering and clapping. I knew Canada was going to stomp on the USA, I just knew it. That was only goal of the first period.

When the horn sounded for the second period I knew the United States was going to fight back hard. Boy, was I right! The Americans came back, shooting every time they touched the puck. But, they couldn't get it past Luongo.

About seven minutes into the second period a beautiful goal from Corey Perry was first. His teammate Ryan Getzlaf was on the same line as him and set him up beautifully to get a top right corner goal. Miller just wasn't fast enough for this bullet of a shot. 2 minutes later a wrist shot from Patrick Kane goes off of Ryan Kesler and bounces past Luongo's arm. I jumped from the couch and yelled every swear word know to man. I heard my mother scold me from the kitchen but I quickly brushed it off. That was it for the second period. I turned to my dad and saw his face boil over with anger and frustration.

When the third period horn sounded I knew it was going to a crazy period. I was right. The amount of chances Canada had ash couldn't capitalize was making me scream until lungs were sore. I was frustrated, but I still knew that Canada was leading 2-1. Luongo was making amazing saves, he was unbelievable. The clock slowly started to wind down and with 24 seconds left in the third period Zach Parise tapped in a deflected shot past Roberto Luongo. I was devastated. I thought "This is it for Canada." My dad was so mad he kicked over the foot stool in front of him and left the living room while yelling "They're giving them the damn game!"

I sat back down on my couch so dis-spirited while the horn blew for sudden death over time. I saw an overview of a crowd outside General Motors Arena screaming their hearts for Team Canada. Even though I was sitting on my couch 2,000 miles away I could feel the electricity in the air. It's do or die for Team Canada and I had faith in them. Toews won the face off at centre ice. Both teams were taking huge shots towards the net and before I knew it, the game was over. I can hear the broadcaster now.

"Iginla scoops up the puck and passes it back to Crosby... HE SCORES! SIDNEY CROSBY, THE GOLDEN GOAL! CANADA HAS ONCE IN LIFETIME WON THE OLYMPIC GOLD!"

I jumped up from my couch screaming my head running down to the hall to tell my dad the good news! I remember yelling "CROSBY DID IT, DAD!" My dad ran back to the living room to see the replay of the goal. I couldn't believe it for the first time in history Canada won the gold medal on home ice at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. That was one of the greatest days of my life. I will never forget that game. (I'll post the link for this game)
