I met one of my all time favourite players

Hey, guys!

Today I'm going to be talking about the time I met one of my favourite hockey players. For those of you who don't know, I work at Pro Hockey Life, the worlds largest hockey retailer. It's a great job! I love my job there because I get access to all this awesome knowledge about equipment and NHL licensed products and if you're lucky you get to meet some NHL players that come into the store.

June 15, 2013

I had some friends visiting from out of town and they were staying at my house. There were 4 other boys staying at my house beside myself and my two other siblings. It got pretty hectic at home but I enjoyed every second of it. I had gone out last night with them and we had stayed out fairly late and I knew I had to work tomorrow.

The next morning I felt the effects of staying up until 4 am. I got up ran to the shower and quickly got ready for work. I ate a small bowl of cereal before bolting out the door to work. When I arrived I ran inside to avoid being late. I clocked in with five minutes to spare.

I headed over to my specific department and began asking customers if they needed a hand finding anything. I asked a gentleman who had his back turned to me if he needed any help. The man turned around and smiled at me and said "Hi there, I'm alright but I think my son might need a hand."

My eyes immediately went wide and I smiled back and said "Oh my gosh, you're Shane Doan from the Phoenix Coyotes."

He smiled and stuck his hand out and said "How's it going?" I said "Whoa, you're Shane Doan!"

For those of you who don't know Shane Doan is the last original Winnipeg Jets player in the NHL right now.

I had chatted with Shane for about 20 minutes before another customer needed a hand. In that time I got to know Shane and how the move from Winnipeg to Phoenix was a big culture shock for him. He also gladly volunteered to take a picture with me. I took about 5-6 photos with him because so all of them came out blurry. Each time I asked for another picture he said of course with a smile on his face. He was by far the nicest pro hockey player I have ever met. He also signed autographs fro kids and chatted with many other people in the store. All my other co-workers said he was one of the nicest guys as well.

So, I want to hear from you guys. What hockey players have you met and what was their personality like? Comment below!

Until next week, guys!

My all time favourite game

Hey, guys!

This week I'm going to be talking about my all time favourite hockey game. My all time favourite game would have to be the goal medal game between Team Canada and Team USA at the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympics. To this day I watch highlights from that game and I still get goosebumps.

The story goes a little something like this....

February 28, 2010.

It was a cold Sunday morning in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I woke up and ran straight to the living room and and turned the TV on to CBC. I was so excited I could hardly contain it. It was a weird day because it was also my dad's birthday. I was so excited for the game that I forgot to wish my dad a happy birthday.....Don't worry I didn't forget my dad's birthday!

I sat on the couch and saw that the game had already started, I was anxious. I was so on dye that as soon as any of my family members started talking I yelled at them to shut up. I knew today history was going to be made.

After ten minutes of me tuning into the game a laser of goal was scored by my hometown hero, Jonathan Toews! I immediately jumped up from my couch and started cheering and clapping. I knew Canada was going to stomp on the USA, I just knew it. That was only goal of the first period.

When the horn sounded for the second period I knew the United States was going to fight back hard. Boy, was I right! The Americans came back, shooting every time they touched the puck. But, they couldn't get it past Luongo.

About seven minutes into the second period a beautiful goal from Corey Perry was first. His teammate Ryan Getzlaf was on the same line as him and set him up beautifully to get a top right corner goal. Miller just wasn't fast enough for this bullet of a shot. 2 minutes later a wrist shot from Patrick Kane goes off of Ryan Kesler and bounces past Luongo's arm. I jumped from the couch and yelled every swear word know to man. I heard my mother scold me from the kitchen but I quickly brushed it off. That was it for the second period. I turned to my dad and saw his face boil over with anger and frustration.

When the third period horn sounded I knew it was going to a crazy period. I was right. The amount of chances Canada had ash couldn't capitalize was making me scream until lungs were sore. I was frustrated, but I still knew that Canada was leading 2-1. Luongo was making amazing saves, he was unbelievable. The clock slowly started to wind down and with 24 seconds left in the third period Zach Parise tapped in a deflected shot past Roberto Luongo. I was devastated. I thought "This is it for Canada." My dad was so mad he kicked over the foot stool in front of him and left the living room while yelling "They're giving them the damn game!"

I sat back down on my couch so dis-spirited while the horn blew for sudden death over time. I saw an overview of a crowd outside General Motors Arena screaming their hearts for Team Canada. Even though I was sitting on my couch 2,000 miles away I could feel the electricity in the air. It's do or die for Team Canada and I had faith in them. Toews won the face off at centre ice. Both teams were taking huge shots towards the net and before I knew it, the game was over. I can hear the broadcaster now.

"Iginla scoops up the puck and passes it back to Crosby... HE SCORES! SIDNEY CROSBY, THE GOLDEN GOAL! CANADA HAS ONCE IN LIFETIME WON THE OLYMPIC GOLD!"

I jumped up from my couch screaming my head running down to the hall to tell my dad the good news! I remember yelling "CROSBY DID IT, DAD!" My dad ran back to the living room to see the replay of the goal. I couldn't believe it for the first time in history Canada won the gold medal on home ice at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. That was one of the greatest days of my life. I will never forget that game. (I'll post the link for this game)

So, I want to hear from you guys! What is your favourite all time hockey game? All game are fair, NHL, AHL, International, even a game you played in as a kid! Comment below!

Until next week, guys!

What makes you jump up out of your seat?

Hey, beauties!

Today I'm going to be talking about one of my favourite things about the good ol' hockey game........GOALTENDING! Now, I know this isn't as exciting for most hockey players cause those guys are all about the wheel, snipe, celly life, but as a goalie I have a very special place win my heart for goaltending. Not just because I AM a goalie, mostly because when you watch a save in slow motion its almost like an art.

Sorry for getting so artsy, fartsy on you guys.... I won't do it again.... this week.

The message I'm trying to get across is that goaltending is by far the hardest position in hockey...In my opinion. Most of my friends who are goalies usually have a favourite NHL team but they also have a favourite goalie who may or may not play for that specific team. For example my favourite team is the Winnipeg Jets, but my favourite goalie is Florida Panthers goalie, Roberto Luongo.

The fondest memories I have of Luongo was his glove save off of Cam Barker in the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs. I can't also forget Luongo being the last line of defence for Team Canada during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Luongo made this humongous glove save, or should I say "Lu-mongus save" off a slap shot from Cam Barker. The Canucks were at home in Vancouver, the Canucks were leading the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1, Luongo was on his A game. I was sitting on my couch watching it from the edge of my seat. Luongo had some traffic in his crease, Marian Hossa knocked Luongo's stick out of his hand. The puck slid over to the blue line where Chris Versteeg was able to scoop it up. I can hear Jim Hughson calling the play as I type this.

"He can't put it in past Luongo. Centring pass to Versteeg. Luongo doesn't have his stick. Looks in front, saucers to Barker... SAVE LUONGO!"

Right then and there I jumped up from my couch, clapped and cheered!

I could hear the crowd go wild, cheer and yell "LUUUUUUUU!" in respect for their star goaltender.

(save link below)

That without a doubt has to be my favourite save by my favourite goalie. So, I want to hear from you guys! What is your all time favourite save by your all time favourite goalie?

Until next week, guys!

This month isn't looking too great

Hey, guys!

I don't know how much of you have been following the Jets so far but its been a really tough dry spell. The Jets are 2-9 this month alone! The only teams the Jets have beat are the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks. Both of those teams are struggling and haven't been the greatest teams the past few years.

Although, I will say this... I'm glad they kicked the crap out of Vancouver the other day! Although, the Canucks were one of my favourite teams before they Jets came back, but that was only because of their ex-allstar goalie, Roberto Luongo of course.

I have a rivalry against the Canucks because my girlfriend is from Vancouver. Other then that, I'm fine with the Canucks.

Now, with that said, the Jets need to concentrate on the future especially for their game tomorrow night against the Coyotes.

So, this brings me to my question of the week to you guys! How many of you think the Jets will get out of this awful funk and rip up in the rest of the regular season? And how many of you guys have a rivalry with your significant other? Not just your boyfriend/ girlfriend but also family members! Comment below!

Until next week, guys!

This will probably make your blood boil if you're a Jets fan

Hey, guys.

Ok, Christmas is coming up pretty soon, but, I'm not excited for that. I'm excited to see the Jets take on the Buffalo Sabres. Most of you are probably asking "Why? The Sabres suck."

I know, I know. I'm just really excited to see the reaction from fans at the MTS Centre when Evander Kane hits the ice.

For those of you who don't know Evander Kane might just be the most hated Winnipeg Jets player to date. Kane was known as the "Jerk of the Jets." (Actually the word is a little more colourful) He was know by most Jets fans as the type of guy who would walk out on bills at restaurants, act disrespectful towards teammates and the Jets organization, even charging fans for photos/ autographs.

Jets fan had been dealing with this nonsense since the day Kane arrived in Winnipeg after the Jets relocation from Atlanta in 2011.

Now, recently in an article in The Hockey News, Kane made some comments regarding his stay in Winnipeg saying (I will post the link)

"Yeah, I asked for a trade every off-season in Winnipeg."

Now, I'm pretty level headed guy when it comes to matters like this, I like to hear both sides. For the last little bit, and if you're a fan of Kane, good! I have heard that he does treat people pretty badly, and that was one of the biggest reasons for him being traded to Buffalo.

So, what I want to know is if any of you guys have had a negative encounter with Evander Kane or know someone or heard about a negative encounter with Evander Kane when he was a Jet?

Mike Richards busted?

What's up, pigeons?

So, this week I've got something a little different to talk about.... NHL players getting in trouble with the law! It's not often that this happens but it sure does happen, most of the time we don't even know it happens. So, I'm going to talk about the most recent drug bust to a player who's a pretty big deal, Mike Richards.

Richards WAS a centre-man for the Los Angeles Kings until mid June 2015. Richards was charged with drug possession after Canada border patrol officers found oxycodone in his car at the Pembina, North Dakota border crossing.

Now, just like most cases with NHL players getting in trouble with the law, nothing has been settled definitively. A court hearing is set for December 8, 2015 where hopefully everything will settle once and for all.

Also, since his arrest for drug possession in June, the Los Angeles Kings have terminated the rest of his contract. So, I have to ask you guys, do you think the Kings terminating Richards's contract was a good idea, public relations wise? Or do you guys think the Kings made a big mistake letting letting him go? Comment below!

Until next week, kids!

Touchy subject....be warned!

Sup, beauties?

Today I'm going to be talking about a fairly touchy subject swirling around the NHL right now. I think you guys know what I'm talking about.... Yes, Patrick Kane.

Now, before I start talking about this particular article I want to apologize if it upsets or offends anyone. It involves the rape allegations again Patrick Kane. If anything to do with this subject offends you, please look away, or stop reading.

Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks was the subject of rape allegations against a 21 year old woman from Kane's hometown of Buffalo, New York. Rumours spread like wildfire as soon as the allegations broke out. Now, still the case has NOT come to a final conclusion. But, now that the NHL season has started Kane is now traveling with the Chicago Blackhawks.

In cities the Blackhawks are visiting, such as Philadelphia the crowd was chanting "She said no" in a effort to throw Kane off his game. (I will post link)

So, I want to hear from you guys. Do you think this is just a big rumour? Or is this allegation against Kane true and how do you feel about fans taunting him about it?

The spotlight is on something else...

Hey, guys!

So, this week I'm going to talk about something that has grabbed my attention and surprised me quite a bit. Yeah, you probably know what I'm talking about.... The Habs!

The Montreal Canadiens have been sensational this year! Starting off the regular season with a whopping 7-0 record! That's unheard of! Their new acquisitions over the summer have preet darn good for them, especially bringing in Zack Kassian from the Vancouver Canucks for Brandon Prust.

But, the real determining factor for Montreal has to be Carey Price! The young goalie has won six out of the past seven games! The Montreal Candiens are off to a fantastic start, but can they keep it up?

Montreal has been know to start off the season really well and then as we get to the middle of the season they get a bit odd, and by odd I mean, lose a few games back to back. Personally, I love Carey Price, I think for a young goaltender he's setting the bar really high for goalies all over the NHL and I think there's a ring for him in the not too distant future, but hey, what do I know, right?

So, I want to hear from you guys, my die hard Montreal fans! Do think the Habs can keep this unreal streak up? or do you think they're going to snap? Comment below!

Anyways, thanks for reading!

See you guys next week!

Wednesday 14 October 2015

WOW! I FEEL GOOD!

Hey, guys!

So....HOW ABOUT THOSE JETS? The Winnipeg Jets are off to a fantastic start so far despite their rocky numbers in the preseason. I really hope they can keep it up! They started the regular season on the road in Boston winning 6-2, and another two wins against the Devils and the Rangers and one loss to the Islanders. Not too shabby if I do say so myself! I can't remember the last time the Jets were  this great this early in the season! But, I have to hold my tongue, its very early in the season and I don't want to jinx anything.

I also have to mention how amazing Mark Scheifele is with 3 goals in 4 games! Last year Scheifele put some pretty decent numbers for a young forward. However, this year he is enroute to score 80 goals, which I think is ridiculous for someone that young, but hey, you never know, right?

So, I have to ask my readers. How long will the Jets keep up this amazing run? Will they lose at home or on the road? AND will Scheifele be a big part of the Jets success this year? What do you think? Comment below!

Until next week, guys!

GO JETS GO!

Thursday 8 October 2015

It's the most wonderful time of the yeaaaar!

Hey, guys!

I don't know about you guys but I'm super duper pumped right now! I just watched the Jets first regular season game and they just slaughtered the Boston Bruins! This makes me happier than the average person simply because I absolutely HATE the Bruins!

So, what can I say the Jets are off to good start and hopefully they can keep it going. They're playing in the toughest division so playoffs might be a real doozie again this year, but I have faith in them. Also, to anyone who watched the game tonight, how about that nice tap off Nic Petan's skate to make it 5-2 for the Jets? I'll tell you what, Petan and Nicolaj Ehlers are going to be fantastic players for the Jets (not to say they already aren't great players) but having that young blood on the team really makes the chemistry in the room a little more solid, in my opinion.

Now, I want to year from you guys! Who do you think out of all the new faces on the Jets this year is going to put up the most points? I'm putting my money on Ehlers! Who do you guys have your eyes on?

Until next time, guys!

Monday 28 September 2015

I know it's the preseason but still...

Hey, guys.

So, I've been following the preseason quite a bit and I'm not happy at all with how the Jets have been doing...

I know, it's only the preseason but it's driving me nuts! The Jets have not won a SINGLE game. Does this grind anyone else's gears? Look, I get it, it's the preseason, but still! Micheal Hutchinson, who is supposed to be the Jets future starting goaltender lets in six goals the other day against Minnesota! Are you serious right now?

I'm probably going to get  a lot of flack for this post but thats fine, and everyone I talk to has said "Relax, it's only the preseason."  I guess you could say I'm that guy who is worried that if the team is crappy in the preseason then they will be crappy in the regular season, you know, during the games that actually matter. With the Jets just squeaking their way into the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year, the expectations will be high of the players, and playing in the Central division certainly won't help either.

So, lets hear from you guys! How well do you think the Winnipeg Jets will do this year? I'm hoping for the playoffs and hopefully this time they win a game instead of getting swept, and hey, and advancement to the next round would be nice too.

Oh, and remember only 9 more days until hockey starts back up again! GO JETS GO!

Until next time guys!

Thursday 24 September 2015

Yeah, I'm still sour over that.

Hey, guys!

Today, I'm going to be talking about trades. One trade that I'm a bit sour about (even though it was two years ago) was the trade of my favourite goalie, Roberto Luongo from the Vancouver Canucks to the Florida Panthers. To me, Luongo was my favourite goalie in the NHL. The reason I was so upset over this trade was because the Canucks got nothing for him, and that previous summer they traded Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils.

HOW CAN A GENERAL MANGER DO THIS TO A POTENTIAL STANLEY CUP CONTENDER?

After the trade things have only been downhill for Vancouver. The Luongo trade happened in March of 2014, then in July 2014 Ryan Kesler, another star player for Vancouver was traded to Anaheim. Which inevitably started the hashtag on Twitter "#FireGillis" who at the time, was the general manger for the Canucks. immediately after the Kesler trade, Gillis was fired and replaced by Vanocouver Canucks alumni, Trevor Linden. However, since the replacement of Gillis with Linden he brought a new star goaltender, Ryan Miller from St. Louis. He isn't Luongo, but he does a somewhat decent job, I guess. Orca Bay, the company that owns the Canucks stated "We are in the process of a rebuild of this franchise." I'm seeing lots of talk, but no action. This past summer another Canucks star player was traded to Anaheim, Kevin Bieksa.

Four years ago, Vancouver was battling the Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup, but unfortunately lost in game 7 in Vancouver.

Now, I would consider the Canucks lucky even if they could make it into the playoffs.

But, with all they trading they're doing, theres also hope for a better tomorrow.

Now, I want to hear from YOU! What trade/ trades still leaves a bad taste in your mouth? Comment below!

Anyways, thanks fro reading!

Wednesday 16 September 2015

Hey, guys!

Today I'm going to talk about something big on philanthropy side in the NHL today. Now, for those of you who haven't heard, P.K Subban defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens agreed to make a 10 million dollar donation to the Montreal General Children's Hospital over the next 7 years.

Now, a lot of NHL fans either love Subban or hate him, as a Habs fan myself, I have big smile on my face, and I love him that much more. I think this is great for Subban and the Montreal Canadiens as a team. I mean, come on! How could you hate a guy for doing such an amazing thing?

I think this might be one of the biggest, if not the biggest donation to a medical institution in Canadian history. Because of this amazing donation, the Montreal General Children's Hosptial has renamed the Atrium after P.K. Subban! How incredible is that? Bottom line, love him or hate him, you have to have a big amount of respect for the guy after this.

I will also post the link from NHL.com so you guys can read the whole article. Also, I want to hear from you guys, do you think philanthropic work adds to a players respect level? Or do you think these guys should just stick to playing hockey?

Comment below!

And thanks again for reading!

See you next week!

I'm glad to be back!

Hey Everyone!

I took some time off from the whole blogging thing for a while but I'm happy to say that I am back in the game!

Now, some of you remember me for my blog about Metal and Hardcore music. But, and I apologize if this upsets anyone. I'm going to be changing the topic of my blog to hockey! My favourite sport! I'm going to be talking about players, goalies, coaches, calls, fights, tweets, refs, expansion franchises, struggling franchises, rumours, lawsuits, if it happens in the hockey world, I'll be all over it.

So, get ready to talk some serious puck!

Thanks for reading, guys!

See you next week!
